The Ode Gote or Sleeves where very much a late introduction into the armour of the Shinobi-no-mono Warrior during the late part of Sengoku wars, and the earlier part of Edo period in Japanese history. These Ode Gote fit over the Undergarments or the Gi or Uniform and are fixed into position by one cord of which is pulled and tied over each shoulder. The openings of each sleeve are crisscrossed by a Sageo cord and can be secured firmly by pulling both cords together. Each sleeve is constructed of three individual layers with “Karlta” or style plates in double layers running across the forearm's and shoulders of both sleeves for added protection against scuffs or scrapes during field training or competitions.
